Shopping From the Past

From the Archives: Skookum shooting sweaters

Here are a few fetching shooting sweaters from Centralia Knitting Mills (our old Archival knitting mill). I’m a huge fan of this style and these examples nicely illustrate how well the style holds up over time; the leather shooting pad and trim develop a nice wear pattern while the wool knit still looks new. Of the examples, I prefer the top version which makes use of buttons (little brass hunting scenes) over a full zipper (better for controlling fit). If you are shopping for one of these lovelies on eBay, try to find one with some form of customization by the owner: a club patch, a stitched nametag or award pin.
